What words come to mind when you think about serving residents?
Wonderment. Exuberance. Hope in moments of despair. Love amid sadness. Joy during uncertainty. And family when they are needed most.
A defining moment at Grand Brook?
Once, I introduced a resident as a “former” nurse. She quickly corrected me, saying, “Once a nurse, always a nurse.” That moment reminded me: pride in who we are never fades.
Have you had a loved one with dementia?
Yes. My mother developed cardiovascular dementia, and it was a difficult journey. In many ways, her experience was the inspiration behind Grand Brook’s founding.
Advice to family members?
Let the little things go. Life is so very short—and in the end, love is what remains.

What makes Grand Brook a “family”?
Just as family does life together, Grand Brook does work together—we trust, depend on, and lift each other up when days get tough. Over my 26 years with Constant Care and Grand Brook, I’ve celebrated my marriage, my MBA graduation, and the births of all three of my children within our Grand Brook communities. That’s what “doing life together” means to me.
What’s your superpower?
Helping people see their own value. I believe in servant leadership—making sure my team has everything they need to succeed is my top priority.
Advice for families?
Do your homework. There are a lot of options, and it’s important to find the right fit for your loved one. One of the most important questions you can ask: how long has the staff been there? Tenure speaks volumes about a community’s heart and stability.

When you think of Grand Brook, what images come to mind?
I picture people coming together—sweet morning gatherings of staff and residents singing hymns, praying the Lord’s Prayer, and reading the Bible. I see a spouse sitting hand-in-hand with the love of their life, sharing stories or simply being together. I think of our caregivers and nurses, finding strength and peace together, even in silence. It’s the beauty of genuine connection.
What makes your day?
My interactions with our residents remind me daily how powerful a hug and a smile can be. I once told a resident I was having a rough day, and he put his hand on my shoulder and said, “It’s not your day—it’s the day God made. Make it a good one.” Moments like that remind me what a blessing it is to serve seniors—their wisdom and honesty are unmatched.
Advice for families navigating dementia?
Allow yourself to feel every emotion this journey brings. Talk about them. It’s okay to feel sad, joyful, overwhelmed, or grateful—all in the same day. Remember to savor the time together. Laugh, smile, be still, and take breaks when you need them. Presence and love mean more than anything else.

How is Grand Brook like a family?
Family looks after each other’s hearts and shares a unique bond. Being part of the Grand Brook family means embracing that same care and closeness with each other—and with every resident and family we serve.
What do you feel when you walk through the door?
Warmth, joy, and connection.
Share a special moment with a Grand Brook resident.
There was a gentleman in one of our communities who stole my heart from day one—he was quiet, always in the game room, either watching TV or catnapping. Every morning, I’d stop in, kiss his forehead, and say, “I love you.” He’d smile and nod. One day, after our usual routine, he surprised me. He looked up and said enthusiastically, “You know, I LOVE you TOO, LuLu!”
*I was stunned—who was Lulu? His son was equally amazed. He explained that Lulu was his grandmother, someone he loved deeply and always said was like a mother to him. Somehow, I had reminded him of her. That’s the beauty of what we do—sometimes we become a familiar face from the heart. As our founder Jane says, what an honor to be known as love.
